This page details the College's Admissions Procedure for students who are applying from abroad or those students who will need to return to their country of origin to change their visa status.
Applying to any South London College Course is simple.
Step 1 – Complete the Application Form
First you must complete an application form as the first step of the application process. Once you have decided on the course that you wish to study, you simply complete the application form online or fill it out manually by printing a hard copy from the College website and return it to the College and copies of all your latest education qualifications for evaluation by the Admissions Department. If you are applying through our authorised agents they will provide you with the details you need in going through the admissions process. Please note that our agents are given excellent guidance and training on the College’s Admissions Procedure and course details.
Unless specified in the course details, there is no official closing date for applications. However, you are recommended to apply early enough for your arrival at the College on time for the commencement of your course.
Step 2 - Receiving an Offer
Once we have received your application and supporting documents, our Admissions Department will review your application. If you meet the entry criteria for the course that you have applied for, we will give you a conditional offer by email and/or letter. You can expect to receive a decision on your application within 48 hours from the time we receive your application.
Step 3- Accepting the Offer
In order to accept an offer from the College, overseas students will be required to pay part of their tuition fees, as described in their conditional offer letter. Students can pay the entirety of their tuition fees in advance. Once we receive the tuition fees and the required documents, the Admissions Department will issue the Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies or the Acceptance Letter. This document will enable you to apply for a student visa.
Step 4 - English Assessment Policy (Students Whose First Language is not English)

The College is committed to ensuring that all our students have a satisfactory level of English to enable them to succeed in their chosen courses. We currently conduct English Proficiency tests to all applicants from non-English speaking countries and compare their results with their IELTS or other approved English test certificates from their countries of origin.

English Language Requirement
Enrolling for Level 3-5 Courses
Students must demonstrate an English Language competency. Applicants applying for courses below Level 6 must provide proof of language ability by taking a TOEFL, IELTS, PEARSON or Cambridge test. B1 or a minimum of 4.0 is the appropriate level for all lower level courses. Our Level 3-5 courses except placement based courses require 5.5 Overall Band Score.
Enrolling on Courses on Level 6 and Higher
Students must also demonstrate the level of English at B2. This means that students must score 5.5 in each four disciplines is appropriate level if they are coming to study Level 6 and Level 7 Courses.
You will be exempted from English Language Test if you are a national of the following Countries.
Antigua and Barbuda; Australia; The Bahamas; Barbados; Belize; Canada; Dominica; Grenada; Guyana; Jamaica; New Zealand; St Kitts and Nevis; St Lucia; St Vincent and the Grenadines; Trinidad and Tobago; United States of America.
Step 5 Accommodation
The next important stage to consider is where you are going to stay whilst studying at South London College.
The College’s Accommodation Officer offers arranged affordable basic accommodation for incoming international students. (See section on accommodation)
Step 6 - Dispatch of Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies/ Acceptance Letter
All the visa documents we send are dispatched via Royal Mail's International Signed For Service. This is efficient in Europe and the USA and will usually deliver your documents to you within two weeks. However, if you are not from the above countries and would like these documents on time so that you can apply for your visa, we strongly recommend that you request us to send this pack by courier (DHL) and send us £30 per delivery along with your tuition fee. If we have not received a clear instruction from you and we feel that this document will not reach its destination on time, without sending it by courier, then we will deduct £30 from your received tuition fees and dispatch these documents by DHL.
Please note that the DHL charge is non-refundable and we will not be liable if the package doesn't get delivered to you if the address you have provided is incomplete or you were not available to accept the delivery. For more information about DHL visit www.dhl.co.uk.
Step 7- Visa Application Process
In applying for your visa, you must show the Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies (CAS) issued by the South London College. A CAS is a unique reference number which you need to quote on your application form. Also, you must be able to show that you have enough funds to pay the balance of your tuition fees and you must show that you have enough money to cover your monthly living cost including your accommodation without receiving public funds when you submit your application. It will also be important to prove that you intend to leave the United Kingdom upon completion of your studies.
In applying for your student visa you should check with your local visa issuing post to have further information on how you may need to apply in your home country. The UKBA website also details the documents you need to submit and the fees you need to pay for your student visa application. It will also be important for you to arrange for your biometrics which is usually done at the visa issuing post.

Step 8 - Final Registration
If your visa application is successful, please inform us of this fact as soon as possible so that we can make the necessary arrangements for your arrival in the UK. Once you have arrived in the UK you will be required to report to the College in order to complete any outstanding procedures and formalities for your enrolment. Be advised that you will need to pay the balance of your tuition fees before the commencement of your course. Please ensure that you have the following documents when you come into the College for enrolment:
- Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies or CAS
- Original Certificates including those stated in your CAS
- Enrolment Form
- Updated CV stating that you are enrolled at South London College (for placement- based courses)
- Amount for the remaining balance if applicable (Please ensure that you have the money needed to pay the remaining balance as per your CAS)
The College will issue enrolment letters after the completion of the enrolment process. They are as follows:
- Confirmation of enrolment letter
- Bank Letter- as you are new in the country, you will need to open a bank account.
- National Insurance Letter- should you seek part- time employment, you will need to apply for a national insurance number.
- Hepatitis B Vaccination Letter- for Dental Nursing Students. As per course requirement, students need to complete a full course of vaccination for Hepatitis B.
- Instalment Letter- If you have a remaining balance, the college will issue a letter stating the dates when the installment is due.
